General

The building stands on a small hill, at the address Lieskauer Straße 1 , in Bennstedt. There are several cellars under the building.

history

The Bennstedt manor was once a castle, as was the castle in Lettin or the castle in Burgwerben . Originally, the building was a moated castle , the pond of which was filled in over time and turned into a park. The exact age of the castle is not known. A real estate company dated the building in an advertisement to the year 1280. The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1267. The von Bennstedt family is mentioned earlier. A deed of donation to the Teutonic Order from 1246 names 7 people with the name of Bennstedt as witnesses.

The manor house - usually referred to as a castle - was in the possession of the von Trotha family for several centuries and later became the property of the Marshals von Bieberstein . They sold it to a Prince of Prussia in the 18th century and then to the Koch family.

Park

At the place of the park west of the manor house, at the so-called castle park, there were ponds of the Bennstedt moated castle. Five preserved obelisk-shaped pots still bear witness to the former splendor. They have holes. Possibly a board was attached to each of them or they served as a border and were connected to one another by chains or ribbons. On the base of the northernmost pot there is an inscription that has not yet been deciphered. The exact origin of the pots is unclear, the von Bieberstein family is said to have removed all figures from the park when the palace park was built and the property was sold. The pots are very similar to the Beiderseee half-milestone and other milestones from around 1800. Of the figures that once adorned the park, the flora existed for a few years and is no longer preserved today.
