Guy Duijck

Guillaume Christian Désiré "Guy" Duijck (born April 28, 1927 in Ghent ; † July 26, 2008 ) was a Belgian composer , lecturer, oboist and conductor .

Life

He completed almost all of his studies at the Royal Conservatory in Ghent, Belgium. There he studied oboe, cor anglais , chamber music , harmony , music history and counterpoint . The fugue was studied during a 9-year stay in Germany at the same time at the Liège Conservatory with Josef Leroy . At the same time he was taking a composition course with Francis de Bourgignon .

In 1947 he was hired as principal oboist for the Muziekkapel van de Zeemacht in Ostend . At the same time he was oboist at the Koninklijke Muntschouwburg (Opera) in Ghent. He was also a lecturer at the Royal Conservatory in Ghent. In 1948 he was appointed oboe lecturer at the Bruges Conservatory . In 1951 he became conductor of the wind orchestra of the 1st Infantry Brigade, which was stationed in Germany. In 1960 he succeeded Jos Hanniken as conductor of the Muziekkapel van de Zeemacht in Ostend. In 1963 he became director of the Municipal Music Academy in Ronse , Belgium and in 1968 director of the Brugge Conservatory.

He has received numerous international and national prizes and awards for his compositions.
