Guy Edgar Campbell (born October 9, 1871 in Fetterman , Taylor County , West Virginia , †  February 17, 1940 in Willoughby , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1917 and 1933 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Guy Campbell attended public schools and high schools in his homeland. In 1889 he moved to Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania with his parents ; In 1893 the family moved to the neighboring town of Crafton . He attended Iron City Business College in Pittsburgh and worked there until 1896 as an office clerk for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad . He then worked in the insurance industry until 1903. He then became involved in the gas and oil business in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1916 congressional election , Campbell was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 32nd  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican Andrew Jackson Barchfeld on March 4, 1917 . After seven re-elections, he was able to complete eight legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1933 . Since 1923 he represented the 36th district of his state there. Also from 1923 Campbell was for the Republican Party in Congress, to which he had since converted. Between 1923 and 1925 he was chairman of the Ministry of Labor's expenditure control committee. World War I fell during his time in Congress . In addition, the 18th and 19th amendments to the Constitution were ratified in 1919 and 1920 . It was about the ban on the trade in alcoholic beverages and the nationwide introduction of women's suffrage .

In 1932, Guy Campbell was not re-elected. After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, he worked as a consultant in the federal capital Washington. He died in Willoughby on February 17, 1940.
