history

Little is known since when there was a schoolhouse in Langen, but it was mentioned as early as 1779 that there was a schoolyard. In 1856 the first school building burned down and a larger house was built on what is now the parking lot of the Volksbank Langen. This building was also demolished in 1879 and a new house with two classrooms and two teacher's apartments was built. The expansion of the school was the first World War prevented. After the war, up to 309 students came to school every day. At the end of World War II , the number of students dropped to 200. Families and refugees who had become homeless as a result of the war were housed in the neighboring villages and as a result the number of pupils rose to 433 in 1948. Two years later there were already 545. In 1952 a new school building was built in the Friedrichsruher Forest. The first building section was occupied with eight classrooms in 1953 and the second section (today's old building) was supplemented with eight classrooms in 1959. On August 27, 1964 the sports hall of the school in Langen was inaugurated. In 1957, the secondary and secondary school moved out of the building and moved into its own school building. The newly introduced orientation level now used the school building. The school was originally founded as a branch of the Wesermünde grammar school . In 1974 it was decided that the school should have an independent secondary level.

The first grammar school in Langen started operations in 1975, and after several moves, it landed in Langen's city center on Lankenweg in 2004. After the orientation stage in Lower Saxony was closed in 2004 and the 5th and 6th grades joined, the building of the old orientation school had to be rebuilt so that the Langen grammar school could move in. While the building was being rebuilt, classrooms and common rooms as well as a large auditorium and an administration wing were added. In 2013, the Das macht Schule association provided PCs, printers and monitors for the grammar school free of charge in order to optimize the IT equipment. In November of the same year, the Swiss memory trainer Gregor Staub performed at the school. Since June 2016, the parents of the students have been campaigning for the establishment of an upper level at the school. Other schools such as the Lower Saxony boarding school in Bad Bederkesa and the grammar school in Wesermünde saw their survival at risk because they benefit from the additional students from Langen in the lower and upper grades. In a vote in the district council of the Cuxhaven district in mid-November 2017, a majority voted against the establishment of an upper level at the Langen grammar school.

The school library

library

The specialist library of the Langen grammar school was built in 2009 by teachers and students. The principle of the school library is to support the students in class with specialist literature. The library has around 5075 books, which are thematically structured according to the subjects and their learning content. Students and parents can also help out in the library. It is located in the basement of the north-east wing.

The building

The gym

The gymnasium at Gymnasium Langen, built in the 1970s, is currently 9–12 meters wide and 22–24 meters long. It is divided into two halves.

After the extension in 2012, a smaller hall was added. Despite having two halls, the sports hall has some problems, such as its size. Due to the size problem, some sports cannot be practiced in the hall, such as volleyball (due to the height), soccer (due to the length) or handball (due to the width and length). For this reason, there is a need in everyday school life that sports lessons must take place at the secondary school, as this has a larger hall.

particularities

  • The Langen grammar school ends after the intermediate level. The introduction of an upper level was rejected in a vote in the district council of the Cuxhaven district in mid-November 2017.
  • In the federal foreign language competition at the end of November 2017, high school students received a special prize in addition to the second state prize.
