The Gymnasium Schloß Neuhaus (GSN) is a municipal high school in the city of Paderborn . It is located in the Neuhaus Castle district . There are currently almost 1400 students taught by around 100 teachers and 16 trainee teachers.

history

The first plans to establish a grammar school in Neuhaus Castle existed as early as 1963, two years later the first application was made, but the Ministry of Education rejected it due to unresolved issues. Another application, made in 1969, was approved. The Schloss Neuhaus grammar school was founded in 1972 with 6 teachers and 98 students by the former community of Schloss Neuhaus, and operations began in some rooms of Schloss Neuhaus and in the rooms of today's Bonhoefferschule. Two years later, the first part of the newly built school building was occupied. With the loss of the independence of Neuhaus Castle, the sponsorship of the school passed to the city of Paderborn in 1975. In 1976 and 1980 the second and third construction phases of the school were completed. In 1981 the first class passed the Abitur at the grammar school. The school is located on the edge of the castle park around Neuhaus Castle, which was renovated on the occasion of the State Horticultural Show that took place in 1994 . On February 14, 2013 it was announced that the school building was to be completely renovated. For this purpose, Heinrich containers will be set up in the schoolyard of the former secondary school, in this "alternative school" the lessons of the students currently affected by the conversion take place. The city of Paderborn has budgeted 12.5 million euros for this project. The renovation started in June / July and was completed in 2017. At the end of the 2017 school year, the students moved into the renovated rooms.

Cooperation partner schools

The grammar school Schloss Neuhaus has twelve grammar school cooperation partner schools in Italy, Romania, Sweden, Hungary, Spain, Poland, Finland, France, Northern Ireland, the Czech Republic, Turkey and the Netherlands. The students of grade 9 (since G8 grade 8) are randomly assigned to a country in advance. In the week before the autumn break, all students travel as a group to their exchange partner in the respective country under the supervision of two teachers. A return visit will take place during the year. There is also the option of visiting the twin cities of New Delhi or Qingdao in grade 10 with a two-week student exchange.

Reduction of school time

Since the 2005 school year, the Schloss Neuhaus grammar school has been one of the twenty first grammar schools in North Rhine-Westphalia at which the shortened schooling period of 12 years was tried out. Previously it was already possible from 2001 to skip the 11th grade with the support of the school; this was an individual offer to high-performing students. Since the 2012/2013 school year, all pupils have been through the Schloss Neuhaus grammar school in 8 years and complete their Abitur after a total of 12 years. Because of this, the second foreign language is now being introduced in the 6th grade.

GSN Awards

Every year, the students can use ballot paper and the Internet to propose a student who (in their eyes) has achieved a special achievement. The ballot papers are then evaluated by the jury (two students, two teachers and parents). This then publishes a list of candidates in various categories (e.g. moral courage and social commitment, culture or competitions). The jury selects the respective winners from these. These are then announced and honored in a festive gala.
