Gymnasium am Wall in Verden (Aller)

The Gymnasium am Wall (abbr .: GaW) is one of the two high schools in Verden an der Aller, Lower Saxony , alongside the Domgymnasium .

history

In 1872 a private secondary school for girls was founded. In 1922 the city of Verden became the sponsor of the school with the name "Städtisches Lyceum ". Since 1946, the students have also been able to do their Abitur . In 1961 the "Gymnasium am Wall" was transferred to the Verden district and co-education was introduced. In 1972 the Gymnasium am Wall took on a pilot role with the introduction of the Reformed Upper School in Lower Saxony . Due to the growing number of students, a number of new buildings and conversions were carried out between 1978 and 1993, which led to the school being enlarged. In 1988 the school received a library in which all the specialist libraries and the student library were combined. In 1989 the school yard was redesigned and a greenhouse was built in-house, which is now the focus of the greenhouse group. In 1993 the school got a cafeteria , which has been run by a private sponsoring association since 2007. Since the 2004/2005 school year there has been a " wind class " in each of the fifth and sixth grades , in which wind instruments are learned together.

For the 2007/2008 school year, rooms were set up for four tenth classes in the district music school, which a year later were also occupied by four ninth classes. In the first half of the year, an eighth grade was moved to the music school instead of a ninth grade. For the school year 2011/12, the premises in the KMK could be given up again, as sufficient space is available again due to the departure of the double year. In 2009, the construction of a new gym began, which was opened for physical education in February 2010, but was not officially inaugurated until August as part of an opening ceremony.

To meet the requirements of an all-day school, a cafeteria with its own kitchen was opened in 2014 .
