The grammar school for working people , also known colloquially as evening grammar school , is a special form of higher school or upper secondary school in Austria . The school form has existed since 1946 and emerged from the workers' secondary schools , which were an institution of the chambers of workers .

Attending a grammar school for working people is possible if they have completed compulsory schooling and are at least 17 years old.

There are evening grammar schools in Austria in Vienna , Innsbruck , Graz , Linz , Salzburg and Klagenfurt . In Villach the local high school runs an evening form.

Since 2011, the Austrian evening grammar schools have had a modular structure through the School Education Act for Working People , Colleges and Preparatory Courses (SchUG-BKV). There are no school classes in the strict sense; Students choose their own schedule.
