Gymnocalycium × heidiae is a natural hybrid of species in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Her parents are Gymnocalycium rosae and another, unknown Gymnocalycium species. Thespecific epithet honors Heidi Neuhuber (* 1965).
description
Gymnocalycium × heidiae grows individually with light gray-green, spherical shoots that reach heights of 3 to 5 centimeters with diameters of up to 10 centimeters. It is a thick, of up to 10 centimeters long taproot trained. The nine to eleven ribs are divided into flat humps. A single central spine is occasionally present in older plants. The seven (rarely five to nine) thin, straight and protruding or more or less close to the shoot, radial spines are yellow to light brown to dark brown and 6 to 12 millimeters long.
The bell-shaped, short and wide funnel-shaped flowers are whitish, light pink, red, purple or orange. They reach a length of 4.5 to 7.3 centimeters and a diameter of 3.3 to 6 centimeters. The spindle-shaped fruits are frosted gray-green to blue-green and have a length of 1.7 to 2.5 centimeters and a diameter of 0.9 to 1.2 centimeters (rarely up to 2 centimeters).
Distribution and systematics
Gymnocalycium × heidiae is common in the Argentine province of Catamarca .
It was first described in 1999 by Gert Josef Albert Neuhuber .
