Gymnocalycium rosae is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors Rosa Till (* 1926), the wife of the Austrian cactus lover Hans Till (1920–2012).
description
Gymnocalycium rosae grows individually with dark olive-green, flattened spherical shoots with a slightly sunken apex and reaches heights of 4.2 to 6.8 centimeters with diameters of 5.5 to 8 centimeters. The seven to eight straight and wide ribs are clearly divided into humps. The oval to circular areoles on it are covered with yellowish white wool. The five to seven thin, spread out, yellow thorns have a red or brown base and are 0.5 to 1 centimeter long.
The funnel-shaped, white flowers reach a length of up to 6 centimeters and a diameter of 5.2 centimeters. The ellipsoid fruits have a length of up to 2.5 centimeters and a diameter of 1.1 centimeters.
Distribution and systematics
Gymnocalycium rosae is common in the Argentine province of Salta .
It was first described in 1995 by Hans Till .
