The Ajax was a 74-gun - Battleship third rank of the Royal Navy .
She was launched on December 23, 1767. She was rigged as a full ship . She took part in the following naval battles during the American Revolutionary War:
- Sea battle at Cape St. Vincent on January 16, 1780.
- Battle of Chesapeake Bay on September 5, 1781.
- Battle of St. Kitts on January 25 and 26, 1782
- Battle of Les Saintes on April 12, 1782.
During her participation in these naval battles , the Ajax was under the command of Captain Nicholas Charrington.
In 1785 the Ajax was sold for demolition.
