Manfred Jonischkies

Manfred Jonischkies (born November 3, 1942 in Stettin ) is a former officer of the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic . Most recently he held the rank of major general .

Military career

After graduating from high school, Manfred Jonischkies joined the NVA as a volunteer applicant on September 30, 1961. There he was an officer student at the Infantry School II from 1961 to 1965 , and later at the officers' college of the land forces "Ernst Thälmann" . In 1964 he joined the SED .

After successfully completing the officers' school and being appointed officer of the NVA, he worked for the first time as a platoon commander and later as a company commander of the 28 motorized rifle regiment from 1965 to 1970 . 1970 followed a stay at a military academy in the Soviet Union . After his return in 1973 he was deputy commander for training in the motorized rifle regiment 27 until 1976 and then regiment commander until 1978 . From 1978 to 1980 Jonischkies was deputy commander for training of the 1st motorized rifle division . From 1980 to 1982 he attended the General Staff Academy in the Soviet Union , after which he became deputy commander and chief of staff of the 8th Motorized Rifle Division . He held this position until 1986, after which he was commander of this division until August 1990. From September 15 to October 2, 1990, the day he was released, he was chief of the V Military District .

He had previously been named major general on October 7, 1988 . Jonischkies is the bearer of the Kampforden "For Services to People and Fatherland" in bronze as well as various other orders and decorations .

After 1990 he worked in a large insurance company until he retired. Since 1994 member of the Initiative Group for the Protection of Social Rights (ISOR), he was co-opted as a member of the ISOR board with effect from February 1, 2013.
