Gymnocalycium marsoneri is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet marsoneri honors the Argentine cactus collector Oreste Marsoner.
description
Gymnocalycium marsoneri grows individually with gray-green to copper-colored, depressed spherical shoots , which reach heights of up to 7 centimeters with diameters of up to 14 centimeters. The nine to 21 flat ribs are rounded and notched. The approximately seven straight to slightly bent back, light brown thorns become darker with age. They are 2 to 3 inches long.
The yellowish white to white flowers reach a length of 3 to 3.5 centimeters and a diameter of 3 to 4.5 centimeters. The spherical to somewhat egg-shaped fruits are purple or red or bluish green.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Gymnocalycium marsoneri is distributed in southwest Brazil , Paraguay , southern Bolivia and northern Argentina at altitudes of 500 to 1500 meters.
It was first described in 1957 by Yoshi Itô . The following subspecies are distinguished:

- Gymnocalycium marsoneri subsp. matoense (Buining & Brederoo) PJBraun & Esteves
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
