Gymnocalycium walteri is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Gymnocalycium walteri grows individually or as sprouts with dark green, hemispherical shoots that reach heights of up to 2.5 centimeters with diameters of 3 to 6.5 centimeters. The seven (rarely five to nine) flat ribs are divided into flat cusps. Central spines are absent. The approximately seven needle-like, flexible, straight to slightly curved radial spines radiate laterally and more or less adjoining. They are yellowish to light brown and 6 to 8 millimeters long.
The white flowers have a pink throat. They reach a length of 4.5 to 5 centimeters and a diameter of 4 to 4.5 centimeters. The wide spindle-shaped fruits are dark green to yellow-green and have a length of up to 3 centimeters and a diameter of 1.5 centimeters.
Distribution and systematics
Gymnocalycium walteri is distributed in the northeast of the Argentine province of Córdoba in grassland interspersed with stones at altitudes of about 800 meters.
