Gymnocalycium zegarrae is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Gymnocalycium zegarrae grows individually with gray-green, spherical shoots that reach heights of 6 to 10 centimeters (rarely up to 25 centimeters) with a diameter of 11 to 18 centimeters (rarely up to 30 centimeters). The 13 to 22 ribs are divided into distinct humps. The elliptical areoles on it are 1 centimeter long and covered with light gray felt. The single central spine is awl, rigid and 2.5 to 3 centimeters (rarely up to 5 centimeters) long. The eight or so awl, rigid and somewhat curved radial spines are comb-shaped and radiate laterally.

The broad, bell-shaped to cup-shaped, funnel-shaped flowers are white to pale pink in color and have a magenta throat. They reach a length of 3 to 4.5 centimeters. Your flower tube is short. The spherical to egg-shaped fruits are green to blue-green and occasionally turn orange or red when fully ripe. They are up to 2 centimeters long and tear vertically. The fruits contain white pulp .

Distribution and systematics

Gymnocalycium zegarrae is common in southern Bolivia .

It was first described in 1958 by Martín Cárdenas . The following subspecies are distinguished:

  • Gymnocalycium zegarrae subsp. zegarrae
  • Gymnocalycium zegarrae subsp. millaresii (Cárdenas) H.Till & W.Till
