Gymnocrex is a genus of three very different types of railing found in Indonesia and New Guinea . They are long-legged birds with bare facial skin. The Rosenbergralle ( Gymnocrex rosenbergii ) has a cobalt blue face that contrasts strongly with the black and maroon plumage. The rust swing Ralle ( gymnocrex plumbeiventris ) and the Talaudinselralle ( gymnocrex talaudensis ) are similar in their plumage the Central and South American species of the genus Aramides . The Talaudralle is the largest species with 33 to 35 cm, followed by the rust-winged rail with 30 to 33 cm and the Rosenbergalle with 30 cm. The Talaudralle, which was only discovered in 1996, and the Rosenbergralle are considered to be endangered or endangered. The rust-winged rail, of which the two subspecies G. p. plumbeiventris and G. p. hoeveni exist is considered safe.
habitat
The Rosenbergralle inhabits primary forests and old secondary forests as well as bush-like disused rice fields at altitudes from sea level to 1500 m. The rust-fang rail occurs in primary forests, in swamp forests, in swamp areas, in moist grass areas near rivers and lakes as well as in monsoon forests from the lowlands to altitudes of 1200 m to 1600 m. The Talaudralle frequented moist grassland and scrubland as well as swampy woodland.
Eating behavior
All three species are insectivores.
