Gynothemis is a genus of dragonflies consisting of four species. The genus belongs to the subfamily Trithemistinae and wasdescribedby Calvert in 1909 . Ris quoted from Calvert's manuscript in his first Libellulinen volume before he published it. Ananimal of the previously undescribed species Gynothemis venipunctata servedas the generotype . The distribution area extends from the southeast of Venezuela south to the Atlantic coast of Brazil .
features
Gynothemis species are comparatively small dragonflies and reach lengths between 22 and 27 millimeters. The abdomen is cylindrical and brown. The chest ( thorax ), however, is darker and has yellow stripes. The wings are transparent except for one spot at the base.
Habitat
Gynothemis- imagines live in forests. Sitting on leaves, they wait for prey.
