Gyula Meszlényi

Gyula Meszlényi (born January 22, 1832 in Velence , ( Kingdom of Hungary ), † March 14, 1905 Satu Mare ( Romania )) was the Roman Catholic Bishop of Satu Mare .

Life

It was on March 10, 1854 deacon and on 27 July of the same year for priests ordained.

On October 17, 1887, he was appointed bishop of Satu Mare . It was consecrated on November 25th of the same year.

He had the cathedral church renovated and in 1904 a new high altar made of Carrara marble was erected. He promoted education, built Catholic schools and took special care of the poor. He provided the diocese's pension fund with more than a million forints, which were distributed for educational and cultural purposes.

He died on March 14, 1905 and was buried in the crypt of the Ascension Cathedral in Satu Mare.
