The diocese of Satu Mare ( Latin Dioecesis Satmariensis ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Romania .

history

It was founded as a diocese ( German  Sathmar ), ( Hungarian Szatmári Egyházmegye ) on March 23, 1804 by Francis I , Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, and recognized on August 9, 1804 by Pope Pius VII by papal bull .

The Diocese of Satu Mare was united with the Diocese of Oradea Mare on June 5, 1930 , but became independent again on June 28, 1941. On April 9, 1948, the reunification with the Oradea Mare diocese took place, which Pope John Paul II repealed on October 18, 1982. It belongs to the Archdiocese of Bucharest , Jenő Schönberger has been bishop since 2003 . The bishopric is in Satu Mare .
