János Hám

János Hám (born January 7, 1781 in Gyöngyös , ( Kingdom of Hungary ), † December 30, 1857 Satu Mare ( Romania )) was the Roman Catholic bishop of Satu Mare .

Life

It was on September 4, 1803 deacon and on 17 March 1804 priests ordained.

On May 25, 1827 he was appointed Bishop of Satu Mare ( German Sathmar ) by imperial decree Franz I. This appointment was confirmed by Pope Leo XII. on January 28, 1828. He was consecrated on July 21 of the same year in the Cathedral of Satu Mare by Ján Kritel Ladislav Pyrker , ( OCist. ), the Archbishop of Eger .

On August 31, 1848, he was made Archbishop of Gran by Ferdinand I , Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary . This appointment was not made by Pope Pius IX. approved.

Bishop János Hám had a new bishop's palace built in the neo-baroque style. The old residence was renovated and integrated into the seminary in Satu Mare to accommodate the increasing number of candidates for the priesthood. He campaigned for the establishment of women's and monastic orders, he founded a school for girls and campaigned for teacher training.

He died on December 30, 1857 in Satu Mare and was buried in the crypt of the Assumption Cathedral of Satu Mare.
