István Fiedler
István Fiedler (born October 14, 1871 in Nagybecskerek , Kingdom of Hungary , † October 25, 1957 in Oradea , Romania ) was the Roman Catholic bishop of Satu Mare and Oradea Mare .
Life
István Fiedler was born as the son of the carpenter Anton Fiedler and his wife Susanna. Damian born. The family on his father's side came from Bohemia , the mother came from a Danube Swabian family. He studied theology in Timișoara and was ordained a priest on September 8, 1894 . On October 16, 1930, with the consent of the government of Romania, he was appointed bishop of the diocese of Oradea Mare and Satu Mare, united on June 5, 1930. It was consecrated on December 8, 1930 by the Apostolic Nuncio in Romania, Archbishop Angelo Maria Dolci . Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Timișoara , Augustin Pacha and the Bishop of Alba Iulia , Gusztáv Károly Majlath .
István Fiedler supported a movement against the Romanian government and was arrested with some priests. He was released on condition that he resigned as diocesan bishop, but the priests remained in custody and were only released after his resignation. On December 15, 1939, he resigned to the office of Bishop of Oradea Mare and Satu Mare and Pope Pius XII. appointed him titular bishop of Mulia .
On October 25, 1957, the bishop emeritus of Oradea Mare and Satu Mare died and was buried in the "Olaszi cemetery" in Oradea.
