The Archdiocese of Bucharest ( Latin Archidioecesis Bucarestiensis , Romanian Arhidieceza de București ) is an archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Romania .

history

It emerged from the Apostolic Vicariate of Wallachia , the Pope Leo XIII. on April 27, 1883 raised to the archbishopric . On June 5, 1930 , as a result of the signing of the Concordat between the Romanian State and the Holy See , the Archbishop of Bucharest was elevated to Primate of Romania .

The oldest preserved church in the Archdiocese of Bucharest is the Franciscan Church (Câmpulung) , from the 13th century. This goes back to Transylvanian-Saxon colonists.
