Dominic Jaquet OFMCon also Dominique Jacquet (born October 13, 1843 in Grolley , ( Switzerland ); † February 3, 1931 in Rome ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Iaşi from 1895 to 1903 .

Life

He was ordained a priest on July 22, 1866, and joined the Franciscan conventual on August 22, 1883 . In addition to his duties in the Order ( Superior ), he also taught at the University of Friborg (Switzerland) .

On January 8, 1895, Pope Leo XIII appointed him . as Bishop of the Diocese of Iaşi, which has been vacant since the resignation of Nicolae Iosif Camilli and was administered by Caietan Liverotti as Apostolic Administrator since May 10, 1894 . He was ordained bishop on March 10, 1895 in Rome by Cardinal Vicenzo Vannutelli , Prefect of the Congregation for Rites . With the consent of the Pope, he founded a Franciscan seminary for various priestly vocations. On June 18, 1902, he opened a new seminary in Iași. He trained teachers, advocated Romanian church music and negotiated with the Crown on the draft of a concordat between the Holy See and the Kingdom of Romania . Disagreements with his closest collaborators forced him to resign on March 31, 1903, and he left the diocese on July 30, 1903. With his departure, his opponents lost their initial enthusiasm and the innovations were gradually abolished.

Bishop Dominique Jaquet moved back to Switzerland and was appointed titular Archbishop of Salamis by Pope Pius X on February 25, 1904 . He taught Christian literature at the University of Friborg until he was called to the Franciscan Generalate in Rome in 1908.

There he died on February 3, 1931 at the age of 88 and was also buried in Rome.
