Lőrinc Cardinal Hose

Lőrinc Cardinal hose ( German  Lorenz hose ; born March 27, 1824 in Arad , † July 10, 1902 in Oradea ) was a Romanian bishop and cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

The Danube Swabian Lorenz Schlauch von Linden , who received the sacrament of Confirmation on May 8, 1835 , attended grammar school from 1834 to 1838 in Arad and then in Szeged, Hungary (1838–1842), where he graduated from high school in 1842. As a teenager he enrolled at the Petrus Card. Pazmany University (1842–1846) - today Loránd Eötvös University - in Budapest , where he received his doctorate in theology on January 30, 1847 . Immediately before, on December 15, 1846, received the hose ordinations Low was on Dec. 21, 1846 sub-deacon and on January 2, 1847 Deacon . From 1846 to 1847 he worked as an archivist at the episcopal archive in Temesvár.

After his ordination , which he received on April 8, 1847 from Bishop Josef Lonovics of Krivina , he worked as a chaplain and cooperator in numerous parishes in the Eastern Hungarian diocese of Csanád . In 1850 hose became professor for dogmatic theology , canon law and church history at the seminary in Temesvár. After nine years of teaching, he became pastor of the parish of Mercydorf in 1859 and another ten years later, in 1869, of Temesgyarmat .

In 1872 he became provost of Szeged Cathedral and a year later, in 1873, provost of Szatmárnémeti Cathedral . From 1877 to 1894, hose was president of the Hungarian Saint Ladislaus Society , and from 1894 honorary president of this association. 1880 member of the board of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences , 1885 honorary doctorate from the Budapest Faculty of Theology.

After Emperor Franz Joseph I received him from Pope Pius IX on March 17, 1873 . proposed as bishop, on July 25, 1873, hose was appointed bishop of Szatmár - today the diocese of Satu Mare in Romania . The episcopal ordination took place on September 21, 1873 by Archbishop János Simor .

From July 1886, hose was one of the personal advisers to Pope Leo XIII. This appointed hose on April 8, 1887 bishop of Oradea Mare . The official inauguration took place on May 26, 1887.

In the consistory of June 12, 1893 tube was as cardinal priest with the titular church of San Girolamo degli Schiavoni to the College of Cardinals received. Hose celebrated the first mass in his new church on May 21, 1894.

After his death on July 15, 1902, he was first buried in the baroque cathedral of St. Ladislaus of Nagyvárad (Großwardein). As his last will provided, however, his body was later transferred to Temesvár , where it found its final resting place next to his father, a wealthy church builder, in the neo-Gothic family crypt he had built (today the Catholic burial chapel ). His cardinal's hat is exhibited there in a cupboard.

Award

In 1897, hose was awarded the Grand Cross of the ku St. Stephen's Order for his services .
