Josef Lonovics from Krivina
Josef Lonovics von Krivina (born January 31, 1793 in Miskolc , Borsod County , Kingdom of Hungary , † March 13, 1867 in Pest ) was bishop of the Csanád diocese (1834-1848) and archbishop of Kalocsa and Erlau .
Life
Education
Josef Lonovics attended high school in Miskolc (1804-1808) and then studied philosophy (1808-1812) and theology (1812-1817) in Erlau . Lonovics received on 13 April 1816, the sacrament of holy orders and was in 1817 in the oven for Dr. theol. PhD .
Priest and teacher
From 1829 to 1834 he was canon of the Erlau diocese . Lonovics was a board member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences , taught moral and pastoral theology in Erlau in 1830 .
Bishop of the Csanád diocese
Josef Lonovics was appointed bishop of the Csanád diocese on March 13, 1834 and held this office until his appointment as archbishop of Kalocsa. He was consecrated as a bishop by the Patriarch of Venice and Archbishop of Erlau , Johann Ladislaus Pyrker , on September 14, 1834.
From 1837 to 1847 he was a member of the Großwardeiner Royal Academy. He opened a law and a philosophy faculty in Timisoara . Lonovics was the founder of the first university in Timisoara , which was closed in 1848.

Freedom fighter
Since he took the side of the rebels from 1848 to 1849, he got house arrest from the emperor, first in Pressburg and then in furnace . 1850-1854 he was interned in Melk Abbey . He then came to Vienna , where he lived with the nuncio .
Archbishop of Kalocsa
In 1859 Josef Lonovics got the title of Archbishop of Kalocsa and in 1866 the real dignity of Archbishop. He held this office until his death and was buried on March 18, 1867 in the Kalocsa cathedral crypt.
