Anton Török

Anton Török (born May 30, 1761 in Földvár , Transylvania , † April 6, 1832 in Timisoara , Austrian Empire ) was bishop of the diocese of Csanád (1829-1832).

Life

Education

Anton Török was born in Földvar in 1761 and began his theological career after high school. Török studied philosophy from 1776–1779 and theology from 1779–1783 as an alumne of the Csanád diocese in the central seminary of Ofen . In 1784 he received the sacrament of ordination through Bishop Emmerich Christovich in Timisoara Cathedral .

From 1784 to 1790 he worked as an aulist in Timisoara and as a chaplain in various parishes in the Csanád diocese. In 1790 he became administrator in Ungarischpecska and was then from 1790 to 1805 pastor in Neubeschenowa . From 1805 he was canon of the Csanád diocese and pastor of the Timisoara fortress. From 1809 to 1828 he was vice director of the episcopal grammar school in Timisoara, from 1827 to 1829 vicar general and provost of the diocese.

On June 13, 1829, he was appointed bishop of the Diocese of Csanád by King Francis I and enthroned on June 30, 1830 in the Timişoara Cathedral , where he was a bishop until his death in 1832. He was ordained bishop on June 13, 1830, by the Bishop of Oradein ( Nagyvárad / Oradea Mare ) František Lajčák . On April 10, 1832 he was buried by the canon lecturer Maross in the Temeswar cathedral crypt. A valuable chalice and a tombstone on the gospel side immortalize his memory in the cathedral church.
