Ladislaus Kőszeghy von Remete (born June 25, 1745 in Szeged , Habsburg Monarchy ; † January 4, 1828 in Timisoara , Austrian Empire ) was bishop of the Csanád diocese (1800–1828).

Life

Born in Szeged in 1745, he joined the Jesuit order after studying philosophy and was accepted into the local diocesan clergy after the dissolution of his order. He then came to Timisoara with Bishop Emmerich Christovich . One after the other, he served as provost of the cathedral , papal protonotary , vicar general and after two years of vacancy he became bishop of Csanád. The episcopal ordination donated him on May 10, 1801, the bishop of Oradea ( Oradea Mare / Nagyvárad ) Nicholas de Kondé Póka-Telek .

Even as vicar general, for about thirty years, Kőszeghy tried to get a seminary in Timisoara. The former Jesuit house was given over to its new purpose after being redesigned as planned. On November 17, 1806, the ceremonial handover of the new college of theology took place. Thus, Bishop Ladislaus Köszeghy opened the first modern theological seminar of the diocese of Csanád. In 1804 he carried out the solemn consecration of the now completed cathedral in Timisoara .

László Kőszeghy died on January 4th, 1828 and was buried in the cathedral crypt in Timisoara.

Kőszeghy was one of the most deserving bishops in the diocese. The city named an alley, a street and a bridge after him. Statues of four eminent bishops were to be erected on the latter: St. Gérard , Ladislaus Kőszeghy, Josef Lonovich and Alexander III. Dessewffy . The sculptures were completed, but World War I prevented them from being erected.
