The county Krassó-Szörény [ ˈkrɒʃːoː ˈsøreːɲ ] ( Hungarian Krassó-Szörény vármegye , Latin comitatus Krassovinis et Severinensis , Romanian Comitatul Caraş-Severin ) was an administrative unit in the Kingdom of Hungary . The area in the Banat covered an area of ​​11,032 km². The main river of the county is the Temesch (Hungarian Temes , Serbian Tamiš , Romanian Timiș ).

The county bordered on the south with Serbia and the Hungarian counties Temes , Arad and Hunyad . The Danube formed the southern border of the county, the Maros (now Romanian Mureș ) the northern border. The Temesch river flowed through the area .

history

The county was created in 1881 through the merger of the counties Krassó ( Krassóvár ) and Szörény ( Szörényvár ).

After the end of the First World War in 1918, the area was divided in the Treaty of Trianon between the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in the south and Romania in the north (most of it).

The census in 1910 showed a population of 466,147 people. Today the area is divided into the southwestern Romanian districts of Caraş-Severin and Timiş , a 10 kilometer wide strip along the Mureş river is in the Romanian district of Arad .
