The County Varazdin (Hungarian vármegye Varasd , Croatian Varaždinska županija ) was a historic administrative unit ( county , or county) in the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia (Hungarian Horvát-Szlavónország ), an autonomous kingdom under the Crown of St. Stephen within the Habsburg monarchy . It was administered by a Croatian ban (viceroy).
The county seat was in Varasd (German Warasdin , Croatian Varaždin ). The county covered an area of 2,507 km². According to the 1910 census, the county had 307,010 inhabitants.
In present-day Croatia , the Varaždin and Krapina-Zagorje counties are roughly in the same area .
