The county bordered on Komorn ( Komárom ), Gran ( Esztergom ), Hont , Neograd ( Nógrád ), Heves , Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok , Csongrád , Bács-Bodrog , Tolna and Weissenburg ( Fejér ) counties . It stretched from the Danube Bend at Visegrád in the northwest over the south north of the city of Baja to the Tisza in the east. Part of the county, the Pilis Mountains , lay west of the Danube near Budapest.

history

Pest and Pilis counties emerged in the 11th century (formally already existing as comitatus Wissegradensis ), with Pest county on the east bank and Pilis county on the west bank of the Danube. After the unification of the two counties (1492), the area around Solt was added in the 17th century, which had previously belonged to Weißenburg county . Finally, in 1876, the county of Kiskun was also attached, and the county existed in this form until the major county reform in 1950. After that, it was divided into two counties of roughly equal size: the north is now organized in Pest county , while the south is organized in Bács-Kiskun county lies.
