Biatorbágy ( German Wiehall-Kleinturwall ) is a Hungarian city in Pest County .
The small town gained notoriety through an attack on the night express train Budapest - Vienna on September 13, 1931. The railway bomber Sylvester Matuska blew up the tracks of the 25 meter high railway viaduct as the train was passing it. As a result, the locomotive and six of the train's twelve cars fell into the depths. 24 people were killed.
The viaduct is no longer used for rail traffic today. The railway line and the station were moved north out of the village. The old route has been renatured and partially built on. There is a path on the viaduct and can be crossed on foot or by bike.
Until the evacuation (1944) and the final expulsion (1946) of the German population after the Second World War, the community was mainly shaped by Hungarian Germans and Danube Swabians from the 18th century . Until then they had retained their traditions and their German mother tongue, even if the official and school language was Hungarian. Small settlement houses, German inscriptions on buildings and a memorial in front of the Catholic Church still remind of this today. Most of the displaced people from Biatorbágy found a new home in Baden-Württemberg .
In recent years, a new industrial area and several outlets have emerged around the motorway junction .
