The Heves county (German rarely also Hewesch county ; Hungarian Heves vármegye , Latin comitatus Hevesiensis ) was a historical administrative unit (county / county) in the Kingdom of Hungary .

The area lies in what is now northern Hungary on the area of ​​what is now Heves County , but it was somewhat larger than this.

The county bordered the Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun , Neograd (Nógrád) , Gemer and Kleinhont (Gömör és Kis-Hont) counties , Borsod , Hajdú and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok counties . It lay between the Mátra Mountains and the Bükk Mountains in the northwest and the River Tisza in the southeast.

history

The county was established in the 13th century and existed in this form until the major county reform in 1950. It was occupied by the Turks from 1596 to 1687. In 1950, as part of the major county reform, the area around Pásztó was assigned to Nógrád county , and the left bank of the Tisza (around Tiszafüred ) was also assigned to Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county . In return, areas near Eger from Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County were added. See further under Heves County .
