The County Udvarhely [ udvɒrhɛj ] (German rarely County Oderhellen ; Hungarian Udvarhely vármegye , Romanian Comitatul Odorhei ) was an administrative unit (county, county) of the Kingdom of Hungary in the Székely Land in Transylvania . Today his area is mostly in Harghita County in central Romania .

Udvarhely county bordered on Maros-Torda , Csík , Háromszék , Groß-Kokelburg (Nagy-Küküllő) and Klein-Kokelburg (Kis-Küküllő) counties . The Great Kokel (now Romanian Târnava Mare ) flows through the county , otherwise the county is heavily mountainous due to the foothills of the Harghita Mountains .

history

Udvarhely County was formed in 1876, when the administrative structure of Transylvania was changed, from the previously existing Szekler chair Udvarhelyszék of the Szeklerland . In 1918 it became part of Romania under the name Odorhei , came back under Hungarian administration for a short time from 1940 to 1944 due to the Second Vienna Arbitral Award and since 1960 has been part of the three Romanian districts of Harghita , Mureș (a small part in the west) and Covasna ( small part in the southeast).
