The county bordered on the Austrian crown land of Lower Austria and the Hungarian counties of Wieselburg (Moson) , Raab (Győr) , Wesprim (Veszprém) and Eisenburg (Vas) . Lake Neusiedl was in the middle and northern part of the county .

history

The county was established in the 11th century and existed in this form until 1918. The western part was part of Burgenland in Austria , which was officially established in 1921 , while the eastern part remained with Hungary. The city of Ödenburg (Hungarian: Sopron), originally awarded to Austria , came to Hungary after a referendum. Due to the major county reform in 1950, the greatly reduced county was added to Győr-Moson county , a small part was added to Vas county .
