The predecessor of FSV Hettstedt was SG Hettstedt-Altdorf, founded in 1945. later the sports association from Saxony-Anhalt was renamed SG Blau-Weiß Hettstedt-Altdorf, and in 1949 the company sports association Stahl Hettstedt was established. In 1952 Stahl Hettstedt merged with Stahl Süd Hettstedt to form BSG Stahl Walzwerk Hettstedt. The carrier company was VEB Walzwerk Hettstedt, one of the largest industrial companies in the region. In football, Hettstedt acted almost without exception in the regional area of the Halle district , and only rose to the later third-class district league in 1962 . The greatest success of the BSG was in 1985 winning the district championship ahead of forward Wolfen and Stahl Thale and winning the subsequent round of promotion to the GDR league . The second highest division of the GDR turned out to be too big for Hettstedt. After only one season, Stahl had to leave the league for the district league again, as penultimate table, together with TSG Bau Rostock and activist Brieske Senftenberg . The Hettstedter stayed there until the end of the GDR football business.

In 1990 the company sports association was restructured into the Blau-Weiß Hettstedt club, which was later called FSV Walzwerk Hettstedt and after the end of the rolling mill's involvement in 1994, it was called FSV Hettstedt. From a sporting point of view, the football club has been commuting between the Saxony-Anhalt State League and the Saxony-Anhalt Association League since the change . In 2008 the FSV was relegated to the seventh class national league, and in 2012 to the eighth class national class. After the FSV went bankrupt in July 2015 and then dissolved, it was replaced by the newly founded FC Hettstedt, which has to start in the 2nd district class for the 2015/16 season.
