The Békés county (German rarely Bekesch ; Hungarian Békés vármegye , Latin comitatus Bekesiensis ) was a historical administrative unit ( county or county ) in the Kingdom of Hungary .
The area is located in what is now southeastern Hungary, but the Békés county that exists today comprises less area and areas.
location
Csongrád , Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok , Hajdú , Bihar , Arad and Csanád counties bordered the county . The Körös River flowed through the county .
history
The county was established in the 11th century. In 1950, as part of the county reform, the county was expanded as follows:
- the northeastern part of Csanád-Arad-Torontál county (established after 1918)
- part of the former Bihar county (area around the places Sarkad and Okány )
- part of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county (area around Dévaványa )
