The Somogy County (German rarely County Schomodj or Somogy ; Hungarian Somogy vármegye , Latin comitatus Simigiensis ) was a historic administrative unit (county / county) in the Kingdom of Hungary .

The area is located in today's south-west Hungary on the area of ​​today's Somogy County , but was somewhat larger than this.

The county bordered on the counties of Zala , Wesprim ( Veszprém ), Tolna , Baranya , Verőce and Belovár-Kőrös (the latter two belonged to the Kingdom of Croatia and Slavonia ). It was on the south bank of Lake Balaton and the Drau flowed through it.

history

Somogy is one of the few historical counties in Hungary that was not affected by the Trianon Peace Treaty . The county was established in the 11th century and existed in this form until the major county reform in 1950. Only the city of Siófok was spun off from the county in 1850 and assigned to the Wesprim county . In 1950, as part of the major county reform, the area around Szigetvár was assigned to Baranya County . See also under Somogy County .
