Håkan Hardenberger ( pronunciation : [ ˌhoːkan ˈhɑːʁdənbæʁʝəʁ ], * 1961 in Malmö ) is a Swedish trumpeter .

He began taking trumpet lessons with his teacher Bo Nilsson in Malmö at the age of eight. Hardenberger attended the Conservatory in Paris with Pierre Thibaud and in Los Angeles with Thomas Stevens .

Already at a young age he gained a reputation as a trumpet virtuoso, who not only has an impressive command of the classical repertoire, but also a large number of contemporary works by composers such as André Jolivet , Harrison Birtwistle , Hans Werner Henze , György Ligeti , Mark-Anthony Turnage , Rolf Martinsson and Arvo Pärt has recorded.

Through his playing he also inspired other composers such as the Austrians HK Gruber and Kurt Schwertsik to create new compositions, the latter for Divertimento macchiato (2007).

Hardenberger is considered the leading trumpeter in classical and new music of our time.
