Taugbøl participated in junior races until 2013. At the Junior World Championships in 2012 in Erzurum , he won bronze with the relay. At the Norwegian U20 cross-country skiing championships in 2013 in Løten , he won gold in the 20 km skiathlon. He got silver with the relay at the Junior World Championships 2013 in Liberec . He ran his first World Cup race in December 2013 in Davos , which he finished with 21st place in the sprint and thus also won his first World Cup points. In February 2014, he won his first Scandinavian Cup victory in the Madona sprint . In the 2014/15 season he achieved his first top ten placement in the World Cup with seventh place in the sprint in Davos. This was followed by other good results in the Scandinavian Cup , which he finished in seventh place in the overall standings. In the 2015/16 season he came in five sprint participations, three times under the top ten and reached 22nd place in the Sprint World Cup. In March 2016 he took his second victory in the Scandinavian Cup in the sprint in Otepää . At the beginning of the 2016/17 season he came second in the sprint at the Scandinavian Cup in Lillehammer . This was followed by three top ten results in the World Cup and finally 19th place in the Sprint World Cup. In March 2017 he finished second in the mini tour in the Scandinavian Cup in Madona and won the overall ranking of the Scandinavian Cup at the end of the season. In April 2018 he and Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget became Norwegian champions in the team sprint.
In the 2019/20 season Taugbøl was in the top ten six times in the sprint. He achieved his first podium finishes in the World Cup with third place in Davos and second in Drammen . In addition, he finished second in the team sprint together with Gjøran Tefre in Planica and at the end of the season he finished 27th in the overall World Cup and eighth in the Sprint World Cup.
