Schrammel fair
The Schrammel Mass (also known as the "Fever Cross Mass " ) is a composition by Herbert Prikopa , which was premiered on October 16, 2011 as part of a service, celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Franz Scharl , in the parish church of Atzgersdorf in Vienna .
History of origin
After the death of an orchestral musician of the Vienna Volksoper who was valued by Prikopa , his widow approached him to compose a mass in memory of the deceased. At the same time, it was supposed to be a festive mass for the 250th anniversary of the "Turkish or Fever Cross" kept in the Atzgersdorf church. The composer renounced organ accompaniment in order to better bring out the four vocal parts. Instead, he chose a Schrammel quintet as accompaniment , from which the name of the mass is derived.
