Hélène Marie Gisèle Marcelle Gagné (born January 30, 1950 in Montreal ) is a Canadian cellist and music teacher .

Gagné was a student of cellist Walter Joachim at the Conservatoire de Musique du Québec from 1961 to 1966 and studied from 1963 to 1968 at the Orford Art Center with Paul Tortelier and Guy Fallot . In 1963 she appeared as a soloist with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra , and in 1964 at the Sarah Fischer Concerts . From 1964 to 1966 she was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada . In 1966 she won first prize in the string category at the CBC Talent Festival . From 1966 to 1969 she attended Guy Fallot's international class at the Conservatoire de Lausanne and obtained her concert license. Finally, she completed her training with Paul Tortelier, Pablo Casals and Helen Airoff Dowling .

From 1965 on, Gagné undertook numerous concert tours with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (1966), the Orchester de Chambre de Lausanne (1968), the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra (1970), the Belgrade Philharmonic (1975) and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (1979). From 1974 to 1978 she taught at the Cam musical de Lanaudière , and in 1978 she gave a summer course in cello and chamber music at the International Festival of Youth Orchestras and Performing Arts in Aberdeen. From 1977 she taught at Concordia University , from 1978 at the University of Montreal and McGill University . She also gave master classes at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec , the Young String Performers' Foundation and the First International Cello Festival in Kobe. In 1966 she recorded Shostakovich's Cello Sonata op. 40 with John Newmark .
