The Höflein-Moor is a moor in Carinthia on the ridge of the Sattnitz in the municipality of Ebenthal .

The moor is about 770 m above sea level on the Sattnitz plateau southwest of Klagenfurt . It lies in a shallow hollow and is largely surrounded by the edge of the forest. The forest consists largely of degraded spruce-pine stands. The moor is located in a former dead ice hole . The hollow is sealed watertight due to a nine meter thick layer of clay. After the Ice Age, a lake formed here that silted up over the millennia. A layer of peat around 2.5 m thick was created.

The moor consists of two parts: the centrally located high moor and the surrounding low moor . The raised bog is dominated by peat moss , but has been disturbed by past drainage measures. Typical bog representatives are rosemary , cranberries , heather and bog pines. At the edge of the bog in the mineral-rich part, large sedge predominate, especially the stiff sedge . On the west side there are fever clover and rushes. The rare mud sedge and the round-leaved sundew also grow in the rushes .

The Höflein moor was declared a nature reserve in 1965. This covers 24.6 hectares and is entirely located in the municipality of Ebental. The “Höflein Moor” European protected area was established by ordinance of the Carinthian provincial government of February 26, 2008 ( list entry ).
