The Hölderlin Gymnasium Nürtingen (in short: HöGy ) is the larger of the two general high schools in the city of Nürtingen .

history

The Hölderlin-Gymnasium was formed in 1970 as a spin-off of the linguistic train of the Max-Planck-Gymnasium . The grammar school is now attended by around 1,035 students who are taught by around 95 teachers. It is reminiscent of Friedrich Hölderlin , who attended Latin school in Nürtingen.

Profile and special features

The Hölderlin-Gymnasium offers four profiles: In the 8th grade a student has to choose between the linguistic profile (three compulsory foreign languages) and the natural science profile (physics as an additional major plus biology / chemistry / physics internships), IMP (computer science, math, Physics) or the music profile. Four different foreign languages are offered:

  • English (5th grade)
  • French / Latin (6th grade)
  • Spanish (8th grade)

In addition, the students can take part in a bilingual offer. In addition, a school exchange with the French town of Oullins is offered for the 10th grade and, for the first time, a German-Hungarian exchange since 2006. In the 11th grade there is also a German-Spanish exchange.

A sponsorship with students from higher grades is offered especially for the 5th grade in order to get to know the Hölderlin-Gymnasium better.

An extension for the all-day school was currently being built at the Hölderlin Gymnasium . The inauguration of the new building took place on April 24, 2009. A large cafeteria was built that can be used as an auditorium and ballroom at the same time. In addition, the new building contains a media laboratory, a project room, a meeting room, a library and a “room of silence” . A photovoltaic system was installed on the roof of the new building, financed by donations and loans. On the premises of the Hölderlin-Gymnasium there is an artificial turf soccer field with floodlights, a sports hall and athletics facilities.

Music and theater

At the beginning of the 2011/12 school year, the Hölderlin-Gymnasium Nürtingen has given itself a music profile to support children musically in a variety of ways. Particular emphasis is placed on practical singing and making music. The students have the opportunity to participate in numerous musical working groups. The lower school choir, the lower school orchestra , the mini big band, the big band , the symphony orchestra, the chamber choir and a chamber music group are offered.

Music played an important role at the Hölderlin Gymnasium from the start. In addition to the groups shown above, there is also a parent-teacher choir and the HöGien Harmonists as a vocal ensemble . Once a year over 100 lower school students perform a musical. There is also a theater group that already had Schiller's Maria Stuart and Die Räuber on the program.

The school's award-winning large symphony orchestra has been known far beyond Nürtingen for thirty years. Concert tours to Poland, Spain and Wales are among the highlights of the approximately 80-strong orchestra. The chamber choir, which consists of high school and middle school students, also performs major concerts twice a year. The musical spectrum ranges from classical oratorio to gospel and jazz.

Others

  • Until the 2005/06 school year, the Hölderlin grammar school offered a math playground with tricky tasks for students in grades 5–7. Due to the sharp decrease in the number of participants since the introduction of the G8 , it was discontinued for the 2006/07 school year.
  • The Hölderlin-Gymnasium has its own wiki, the HöGy-Wiki. Here, for example, class projects are put online.
  • The school newspaper Spongo was voted Germany's best school newspaper 2006 from among 809 titles in the annual Spiegel school newspaper competition. In 2007 it was ranked 8th and in 2008 9th.
