Hōzuki no Reitetsu ( Japanese 鬼 灯 の 冷 徹 ) is a manga series by Natsumi Eguchi that has been published in Japan since 2011. It falls into the comedy and fantasy genres and was adapted as an anime television series and radio play.
content
The plot of the series revolves around the everyday life of Hōzuki ( 鬼 灯 ), the first secretary of Enma ( 閻 魔 大王 , Enma-Daiō ), the king of the Japanese hell. Hōzuki is correct and conscientious - in contrast to his very easy-going and somewhat clumsy boss. He worked his way up from a simple demon over the millennia, is trained in the craft of tormenting souls and eventually became the top bureaucrat. As this he oversees the numerous circles of the Japanese hell and all its demons. These include the young demon workers Karauri ( 唐 瓜 ) and Nasubi ( 茄子 ), whom he meets again and again. The dog Shiro ( シ ロ ), the monkey Kakisuke ( 柿 助 ) and the pheasant Rurio ( ル リ オ ) are also often part of events in Hell, since they are no longer the companions of the deceased Momotarō due to Hōzuki . The stories show how Hōzuki deals with the daily problems of work in hell and his subordinates in a mostly cruel and demonic, but also cool and clever way and is respected and admired by many.

The series has been published since March 3, 2011 (issue 14/2011) in Morning magazine by Kodansha publishing house in Japan. The chapters have also been published in 22 anthologies so far. The volumes sold over 280,000 times each. Tong Li licensed the series for release in Taiwan.
radio play
Animate TV released a 13-part radio play series from December 28, 2013 to April 6, 2014 . The episodes were available on the broadcaster's website. The characters were embodied by the same speakers as later in the anime.
Anime adaptation
At Wit Studio was 2014 Anime -Adaption of the manga, in which Hiro Kaburaki directed. Midori Gotō developed the series concept, the character design was created by Hirotaka Katō and the artistic directors were Jeong Su-rok and Yusuke Takeda .
The series was broadcast from January 10 to April 4, 2014 after midnight (and thus on the previous television day ) by MBS in Japan, as well as being shown by BS-TBS , Chubu-Nippon Broadcasting and TBS . At the same time as the Japanese first broadcast, a version with German, English, French, Portuguese and Spanish subtitles was streamed from the Crunchyroll platform for Europe, North and South America and the Middle East and another was broadcast by Aniplus-Asia .

The music for the series was composed by Tomisiro . The opening credits are underlaid with the song Jigoku no Sata mo Kimi Shidai ( 地獄 の 沙汰 も 君 次第 ), written, composed and played by the ska band Your Song Is Good and sung by the Jigoku no Sata All Stars, d. H. the voice actors for the characters Hōzuki, Enma, Shiro, Karauri, Nasubi, Okō, and the band. For the credits, the songs Ōkina Kingyō no Kinoshitade ( 大 き な 金魚 の 樹 の 下 で ) by Tokyo Philharmonic Chorus, Parallax View ( パ ラ ラ ッ ク ス ・ ビ ュ ー ) by Sumire Uesaka and only in the third episode Caramel メ ルラ 桃 ラ ( キ ラ ラ 桃ジ ャ ム 120% ) from Sumire Uesaka.
