The Y1 and YF1 series are diesel multiple units of the former Swedish state railway Statens Järnvägar (SJ). This is a further development of the Italian ALn 668 .
Railcars of this type are now in service in Sweden , Norway , Serbia , Kosovo , Croatia and Uruguay .
history
Towards the end of the 1970s, the SJ needed new diesel multiple units for its branch lines. The choice fell on the ALn 668 manufactured by FIAT Ferroviaria , which, however, was adapted to Swedish requirements. The first of a total of 100 vehicles were still manufactured in Italy, with more in Kalmar , Sweden. They were given the designation Y1. The railcars were equipped with FIAT engines, and in the 1990s they were partially converted to Volvo DH10 bus engines.
Some vehicles of this series were equipped with a luggage compartment and had 48 seats, these were given the designation YF1. A total of 12 of the 100 vehicles were delivered directly as YF1s, and 6 Y1s were converted to YF1s.
From the 1990s, passenger traffic in the classic area of application of these railcars z. B. reduced on the domestic railway .
IBAB Y1
The newly founded Inlandsbanan AB (IBAB) took over the multiple units Y1 1268, 1269, 1283, 1314, 1328, 1336, 1342, 1344, 1346, 1348 and 1356, which were available there in 2013 and were mainly used in the summer timetable. At times the Y1 1334 with biogas drive from Tekniska Verken Linköping was on loan from IBAB. Some vehicles have now been parked and their replacement is planned for 2020.
Whereabouts
On the other railway lines, such as the Gårdsjö – Håkantorp and the Kil – Torsby railway lines , more modern equipment was used, so that SJ 1996 twenty of the railcars to Croatia - designated there as HZ 7721 - and a few more to Serbia - there as ŽS 710 designated - gave. These railcars are also used on the railways in Kosovo .
In 2013, five railcars went to South America for the state railroad company AFE in Uruguay.
Use in Norway
Some vehicles were sold used to Norway. The Norges Statsbaner are using three of these railcars on the Bratsbergbane ( Nordagutu - Skien ). They were painted red in accordance with the NSB standard. However, their designation did not follow the usual designation scheme of the NSB, because they were still designated as Y1. The route ended in August 2015 and the last two Swedish Y1 cars were scrapped. Since 2016, two two-car trains of the BM69 series have been permanently assigned for service on the route.
