History and construction
The HAL HPT-32 Deepak is a low- wing aircraft with a conventional tail unit and fixed nose wheel landing gear. Pupils and teachers sit side by side in the cockpit under a sunroof that can be opened to the rear. The plane is completely covered with metal. The prototype first started on January 6, 1977. A further development - the HTT-34 - was driven by a propeller turbine, but did not go into series production due to lack of demand.
A total of 17 Deepak crashed, with 19 pilots dead. Ultimately, the Deepak fleet was grounded in 2009 for safety reasons .
