Heinrich von Kropff

Theodor Leopold Heinrich von Kropff (* May 1738 in Braunschweig ; † December 8, 1819 ) was a Prussian major general and chief of Infantry Regiment No. 31 .

Life

He was the son of Karl Friedrich von Kropff (* July 15, 1715 in Altenburg ; † April 30, 1790 in Spandau ), a Prussian lieutenant colonel a. D. , most recently in command of the depot battalion of Infantry Regiment No. 26 and his wife, a born von Krosigk .

Military career

In 1754, Kropff initially served the Duke of Braunschweig as a Junker . In 1757 the troops switched to Prussian service and he became a private corporal in the infantry regiment "Prince of Prussia" . In the Seven Years' War he fought in the battles near Prague , Breslau (wounded), Zorndorf , Hochkirch and Torgau . He was also present at the siege of Prague and the battle of Boitzenburg. On January 7, 1758 he became an ensign and on September 8, 1758 second lieutenant . On July 28, 1762 he was promoted to lieutenant prime and on March 2, 1776 to staff captain . At the end of April 1778, Kropff rose to become captain and company commander and in the same year took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession .

As a major , he was given command of the grenadier battalion on April 25, 1788. The unit marched only to Silesia in 1790. On June 17, 1795 he was commander in the infantry regiment "von Graevenitz" and on January 7, 1796 he became lieutenant colonel there. It was not until June 7, 1798 that the promotion to colonel came. In 1803 he received the order Pour le Mérite at a revue . On May 29, 1805 he was appointed major general and on July 16, 1805 chief of infantry regiment No. 31. On February 16, 1807, the fortress Schweidnitz surrendered under Lieutenant Colonel Haacke to the French under Vandamme and Württemberg troops. Then Kropff was also taken prisoner; most of his troops had already deserted.

He was therefore tried on November 20, 1809 before a court martial and sentenced on December 24, 1810 to two years imprisonment in Kolberg . Due to his poor health, he was released early from prison on September 24, 1812. On May 31, 1814, King Friedrich Wilhelm III. a general amnesty for officers convicted of their behavior from 1806/07, and from September 8, 1814, Kropff also received a secret pension of 350 thalers per month until his death in 1819.

Kropff had married Ernstine Johanne Friedrieke Wilhelmine von Adolphi (* 1765) in Potsdam on June 4, 1785. The couple had three children:
