High and Mighty Color ( spelling : HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR ) was a Japanese Nu-Metal band.

history

Founding and anti-Nobunaga

The band began as Metallica - cover band in the city of Okinawa , consisting of Meg and Sassy, their families both live for generations in Okinawa. The two founding members played in this band for two years until they decided to develop their talent and not just cover songs. After Sassy left the band, she offered Mackaz to join. He accepted, invited his good friend Kazuto to join the band too. Unlike most other bands, the last thing the band was missing was the singer. According to the official website, Meg was sitting in a school performance one day and particularly noticed one voice. He offered Yūsuke to join the band; He refused this at the beginning because he wanted to work as a solo singer, but at some point he gave in because Meg asked him every day if he wanted to join the band, for almost four months. The band, at that time still under the name Anti-Nobunaga , played mainly in smaller coffee shops and art theaters for almost a year. Sassy, ​​the band leader, sent demo tapes to every major Japanese label , but they were all rejected. The band only made their breakthrough when a small Japanese label took up the band. From then on, the band played in places further away from their hometown until the annual Okinawa Music Festival.

Mākī and the music festival

In the summer of 2003, at the annual Okinawa Music Festival, the band's label promoted them heavily until they finally played at a sold-out concert. Since you had to pay admission for each show at the festival, Anti-Nobunaga were the only band that was supposed to play in front of this sold out house. A talent scout from a Sony Music Entertainment Japan subsidiary was in the crowd and asked the band to contribute music for a sampler called Okinawa 2003 . The band then composed their only two songs of their own under the names Anti-Nobunaga, Meaning and Hate You! . At another festival called the Music Picnic Festival , the singer Mākī drew the attention of the same talent scout who discovered Anti-Nobunaga. The scout was of the opinion that the projects alone were nothing special, but that together they could be something completely new on the Japanese music market. Mākī refused at first, because she actually planned to study English abroad, but was later convinced by her future band colleagues to watch them at least one gig. Impressed by the energy the band had on stage, Mākī finally agreed. Shortly after their entry, the band renamed themselves High and Mighty Color. After they "perfected" their powers for six months, according to their website, the band was signed by Sony Japan and played in a league with bands like Orange Range . High and Mighty Color are sometimes referred to as the "sister band" of Orange Range because they are both from Okinawa and both were spotted at the same festival. They spent a lot of time writing and recording songs in 2004. At the end of 2004 their first single, Over , was released, which was only sold in Tower Records stores. It sold out within a month and became extremely rare, which is why it was re-released in 2005. The album was number 1 on the Oricon indie charts for an entire month .

2005

In 2005 the band released their first single as High and Mighty Color, Pride . The song was supposed to be played at a Japanese soccer event, but was instead used for the anime mobile suit Gundam Seed Destiny , for which a theme song was still being sought. At the time, the show was the most popular anime in Japan, so it boosted sales of the first single tremendously. With final sales of 223,208, Pride was the band's most commercially successful single since they were renamed.

During the rest of the year, the band appeared in Japanese media and several times in shows such as Music Fighter , Music Station, and Hey! Hey Hey on. In August, the fourth single Days was released, of which 7,679 records were sold, with which the band could not reach the top 20 mark in the Oricon charts. Despite this setback, the band won the Japanese Record Grand Prix's Rookie of the Year Award . The performance at the award ceremony was dedicated to Mākī's grandmother, who had recently passed away.

2006

In April 2006 the band released their second album Gou on Progressive , from which only singles were released. The album had lower sales than the first album, but was able to stay longer in the Oricon charts and also reached a higher position. The band's first single that year was Ichirin no Hana , which was used as the theme song for Bleach's third intro . This was the only single since Pride to reach the top 5 mark in the Oricon charts. The band also played their first US concert at the Anime Convention on April 28th in Houston , Texas .

Then the band went on a major tour of Japan. They played 65 concerts in the next 5 months and finally released their seventh single, Dive into Yourself , in August . The song served as the theme song of the video game Sengoku Basara II . At times this was the band's second-rarely-selling single, as it only reached number 24 on the weekly charts. Her eighth single Enrai (Tooku ni Aru Akari) was released on October 25th and was used as the closing music of the third Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny: Special Edition film. The single rose to number 12 and thus 12 places via Dive into Yourself in the charts. Energy , a B-side of the single Style: Get Glory in This Hand , was used on a tribute sampler for the film Death Note: The Last Name .

2007

Mākī made her acting debut in the 2006 film Anata o Wasurenai ( I will never forget you ). The band contributed the theme song Tadoritsuku Basho and Oxalis to this film . Both songs were offered for sale as a double single. When Anata o Wasurenai hit theaters, the film debuted at # 10 among the most commercially successful films that weekend. The song Resistance was also used as the theme song for Bleach DS 2nd: Kokui Hirameku Requiem , the Nintendo DS game for the manga Bleach .

On February 4th, several 30-second long excerpts from songs from their third album San (参), which was finally released on February 21st, appeared on the band's official website . The album contained 15 songs, 10 of which were new releases. The album reached number 10 on the Oricon daily charts and number 16 on the weekly charts.

In March it was announced that Yūsuke would be working with the founding member and bassist of the band Porno Graffitti , Masami Shiratama. Yūsuke contributed the vocals for the common single Honnō . This was published on May 23. According to the band, Yūsuke uses his “machine gun vocals” on this single.

The band also made their second appearance in America at the 2007 Anime Fair, organized by Anime Central . The band performed 12 songs, their opening act were the Spiral Spiders.

The band's tenth single was released on August 1, 2007; their theme song Dreams was used for the credits of the anime Darker than Black . During its first week, the single reached number 24 on the Oricon charts.

On September 24, 2007, it was announced on the band's official website that the band's eleventh single would be released on December 12, 2007. On October 5th it was announced that it would be titled Amazing .

On November 4, 2007 it was announced that the band would release a recording called 10 Colored Singles , on which their 10 first singles could be heard, along with the bonus track Ichirin no Hana (Live Studio Version) . The single also includes a DVD of unreleased music videos like Style , Dreams , Here I Am , and the new music video for the song Mushroom . The band also contributed the title Rosier to a tribute album to the band Luna Sea . The album was released in December 2007.

2008

The twelfth single Flashback , which was also used for advertising purposes for the anime Hero Tales , was released on February 27, 2008. The band's fourth album, Rock Pit , was released on March 19 and became the band's most commercially unsuccessful album.

The band began their fourth live tour, Bee Loud, on March 17th, 2008 at the famous Quattro Club in Japan. This was followed by 13 more concerts scattered across the country, the last one in her hometown of Okinawa. The band's thirteenth single is a cover of TM Revolution's song Hot Limit . The style of both the music video and the promotional images should match that of the original. This single was also the first since Dive into Yourself that Sony Entertainment Japan had shot a commercial. The single became the band's most commercially successful single in 2 years and peaked at # 20 on the weekly Oricon charts in the first week.

On July 1, 2008 it was announced that Mākī had married Masato Nakamura, the singer of the band Dreams Come True, and would leave the band in late 2008. In her farewell message, she thanked her band members and fans for supporting them and the band for so long. A special event was planned for Mākī's departure from the band, and at least one single was announced before she would leave the band. It was also announced that the band would start looking for a new singer in early 2009.

High and Mighty Color occurred on 15 August at the Zepp in Nagoya as part of the line-ups of Steal the show on. Zepp is a private club known for its celebrity guests. They performed there alongside bands like 175R , One Ok Rock and Gollbetty. Remember , the band's 14th single, was released on October 15 and was the last single to feature Mākī as a singer.

2009 and the new singer

The band had to switch to Spice Records, a label from Okinawa, which gave the band fewer rights than SME. The first live DVD was released on January 25th and reached number 11 on the Oricon weekly DVD charts and number 9 on the daily DVD charts. After Mākī left the band, the band began looking for a new singer. On February 9th, 2009, the band announced that they had found a new lead singer. After a “major overhaul”, more information would follow on the website. The band began work on a summer single and live tour in May. to promote the new singer. The first single with the new singer Halca, XYZ , was released on July 8, 2009 in both Australia and Japan on iTunes.

The band released their fifth album Swamp Man on September 2, 2009. It reached number 25 on the Oricon charts on the day of its release.

After the release of Swamp Man , the band released a song called Red as a tribute to two popular manga. Red was released for download in Japan on December 9, and was released for download on December 23, 2009 on iTunes Japan and Japan Files.

2010: dissolution

On May 19, 2009 it was announced that High and Mighty Color will release the single Re: ache on August 11, which will be the band's last single. The band members cited "musical differences" and "different views of the future" as the reason for the breakup. The last single Re: ache contains four songs, three completely new and one live version by Red . The single was released on a DVD containing music videos for Re: ache and Goody Bye as well as live recordings of their concert at Sakura-Con 2010.
