Haageocereus chalaensis is a species of plant in the genus Haageocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet chalaensis means 'from the area of ​​Chala (southern Peru)'.

description

Haageocereus chalaensis grows prostrate with numerous branched, widely spread, gray-green shoots that reach a length of up to 1 meter with a diameter of 4 to 5 centimeters. There are twelve to 19 ribs that are 3 to 4 millimeters high. The needle-like thorns are brownish. Of the approximately 15 central spines, usually 5 to 10 millimeters long, one to three are significantly longer. The approximately 30 needle radial spines have a length of 5 to 7 millimeters.

The flowers are white, the fruits are red. The fruits are 2.5 to 4 centimeters long.

Distribution and systematics

Haageocereus chalaensis is widespread in Peru in the Arequipa region near Chala.

It was first described in 1981 by Friedrich Ritter . Haageocereus chalaensis is closely related to Haageocereus decumbens and may even be of the same species.
