Haageocereus icensis is a species of plant in the genus Haageocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet refers to the distribution area in the Peruvian province of Ica .

description

Haageocereus icensis grows with prostrate to semi-upright shoots that reach a length of 1 to 2 meters with a diameter of up to 4 centimeters. There are 15 to 18 very blunt ribs . The 30 or more needle-like thorns are brown. The central spines and the upper radial spines are darker, subphrate and 4 to 8 millimeters long at their tips. The lowest one to three radial spines have a length of up to 1 centimeter. The one or two central spines are up to 3 centimeters long.

The white flowers reach a length of up to 10 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Haageocereus icensis is widespread in Peru in the province of Ica .

It was first described in 1981 by Friedrich Ritter . Haageocereus icensis may just be a variant of Haageocereus acranthus .
