Hadrianoi
Hadrianoi ( Greek Ἁδριάνοι , Latin Hadriani ) was an ancient city in the Mysia region of Asia Minor . It belonged to the Roman province of Bithynia et Pontus and was located in today's Orhaneli in Turkey .
As its name shows, the city on Mysian Olympus was founded by the Roman emperor Hadrian , like the nearby cities of Hadrianoutherai and Hadrianeia . The era of the city began in AD 131/132. Hadrianoi, located at the point where a road running south from Prusa crossed the Rhyndakos River, is believed to have contributed to the urbanization of the area. It was organized according to the usual pattern of a Greek polis . The orator Aelius Aristides , who may have been born near the later city in 117, received Hadrianoi's citizenship.
The titular bishopric Hadriani ad Olympum ( Italian : Adriani ) of the Roman Catholic Church goes back to a late antique bishopric of the city . The diocese belonged to the church province Nicomedia .
